A Fangurl in Korea

When I went to Korea last December 2009, I really had no intention of doing historical or palaces tours. My goal is to see the various filming locations from my favorite K-novelas.

Although I wasn’t able to visit that many places (my companions are more into malling & shopping), I was still able to drop by the following places:

TEA US, MYEONG DONG – Kwon Sang Woo’s (KSW) own Coffee & Gelato shop. KSW is one of my many favorites and I promised myself that I’ll be sipping a cup of coffee in his store when I get the chance to tour Korea. I was also able to drop by Tears, his cosmetics shop in Myeong Dong, but didn’t have any photo opportunity there. (KSW’s kdramas include Stairway to Heaven, Cinderella Man, Bad Love, Sad Love Story, etc.)

TONY MOLY SHOP, MYEONG DONG – Boys Over Flowers’ Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong) is the model of Tony Moly cosmetic shop. While walking around the shops in Myeong Dong, we saw his big poster and went inside the store. Since my sister Chi is a fan (her daughter Sophia used to be a fan but she’s more interested in Big Bang’s G-Dragon these days hehe), nagpakuha siya. E magpapahuli ba naman ako?

N. SEOUL TOWER / NAMSAN TOWER – I first learned about the tower thru the series BOF. That’s where Gu Jun Pyo waited for Jan-Di on a freezing winter night di ba? That’s also the place where they had to spend overnight on a cable car. Remember the scene where GJP wrote their names in one of the cable car? My cousins and I were joking around that we would search for that cable car with the “supposed” writings. And if we can’t find it, we’ll write our own like: “Jun Pyo lurves Lot.” Unfortunately, we were pressed for time & the weather is not ideal for a cable car ride hehe.

Anywho, I went to the tower with Sophia and Chi the morning of our last day in Korea. As a souvenir, my niece bought a replica of the necklace which Jun Pyo gave to Jan Di for KrW 30,000. Me, I just bought a coaster with the image of the tower while Chi bought a keychain. Although the place is more memorable because of BOF, I’ve also seen the tower from watching other series like Witch Yu Hui and even 9 Ends 2 Outs ata.

THE COFFEE PRINCE, COFFEE SHOP – I learned about the directions to this coffee shop from my favorite Pinay blogger in Korea and her site Buhay sa Korea. The place is near Hongik University station on subway line 2 (green line). Although only my niece Sophia and I knows about (and actually watched) the series, I was able to convince my sister Chi, cousin Angelie, officemates Reggie and Angel  and Angel’s daughter Shanica) to visit the place with us. Unfortunately, the shop was close to public that day due to a private party. So we just took our pictures outside hehehe. If you want a DIY Tour of this place, read about Betchay’s post here.

TEDDY BEAR MUSEUM, N. SEOUL TOWER – I learned about Korea’s Teddy Bear Museum from the series Princess Hours starring Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon. However, in the drama, the Museum is located in Jeju Island. Imagine my surprise (and delight) when I found said Museum in N. Seoul Tower hehe. I’m guessing (but not sure) the Teddy Museum in the Goong S drama (starring Se7en and You’re Beautiful’s Park Shin Hye) was shot here.

Bae Yong Joon also has his own teddy bears…

Even Mr. Bean’s Teddy was there…

STAR AVENUE, LOTTE DUTY FREE SHOP – I read that one can view some memorabilia from selected Hallyu stars by visiting Star Avenue. So after going around Myeong Dong, I dragged my sister, niece and cousin Angelie to Lotte Duty Free shop for more “picture-taking.” But my mistake was in going to the Duty Free Shop instead of the Lotte World Amusement Park where the bigger Star Avenue is located. So eto lang pictures namin.
